Nagraedit Dish Programming Guide For Beginners

This guide is designed for beginners, or for those who wish to review the basics of programming d!sh cams (conditional access modules, i.e., nagravision smart cards). In order to program d!sh cams, the proper hardware is essential. You must have:

  1. An iso7816 compliant smart card reader/programmer (and appropriate power supply) with a 3.68MHz oscillator (nagraedit does not support a 3.57MHz oscillator, don’t even think about it);
  2. A DB9 straight through serial cable; and,
  3. Your computer.

Accordingly, this guide will be based upon the nagraedit 1.1 software.

Go download a copy of the program. You can find it here. NagraEdit

Steps

Plug in the 7816 power supply and connect the 7816 to your computer via the DB9 serial cable. Now boot your computer. Start nagraedit by clicking the icon. The program will display the following:

Now click on the various drop down menus and get familiar with the program and it’s various options. Go to “tools” then options and make sure the program is set to “Com1” and “3.6864 MHz.” Now insert your cam into the 7816 reader. Click on the “Card” menu and then on “Read from card” or click on the icon with the blue arrow. You will get a message in the message field.

A successful card dump will look like this:

Click on the EEPROM Data tab

As you can see, this window contains all the vital information contained on the cam. This is also an editing window for these items. That is you can manipulate the data in this window and then write it back to the cam (use the “Card” menu and “Write to Card” or click on the icon with the red arrow. Here you need to input your box keys and your IRD number converted to hex format Next you will have to apply the Clean372.ne3 to the card. This can be done by clicking on File Open Nex Patch.

File -> Apply a Patch file

A window will appear asking you for the Ne3 file. Choose the directory you saved the file in.

Once you have selected the file you will see information similar to the above in the message window.

Next select Write to card under the card menu.

When you are done writing the file to the card your screen will look like this:
